24”x 24” Archival Pigment Prints with thread, No Editions-One of Kind

“Strains” is a playful exploration of the intersection between photography and sculpture, utilizing found objects and toys to create bright and vibrant works that resemble biological microscopic images. They are a glimpse into a fantastical world that is simultaneously familiar and otherworldly.

Each photograph in this project is a unique moment with hand stitching into the image.  We combine found objects into sculptural pieces, photograph them and then stitch into the images. The transformation of everyday objects into something resembling biological microscopic images adds an element of scientific curiosity, inviting the viewer to contemplate the hidden beauty and complexity that lies just beneath the surface of our everyday surroundings.

By using recycled materials, we hope to highlight the potential beauty and value in the objects that are often discarded without a second thought. Through this process of transformation and repurposing, we spark a conversation about our relationship with the environment and the importance of living a sustainable lifestyle.
